WEEK 7- CREATING, REUSING AND COMMUNICATING

Hello everyone.

After reading de EU kids Online 2020,  here is my reflexion about it.

The "Digital Literacy Across the Curriculum" provides a comprehensive approach to defining and implementing digital literacy in the educational context. Beginning with a clear definition of digital literacy, the text underscores its significance as a practice that empowers students to create, share, and comprehend meanings and knowledge in the digital age, considering it an essential entitlement for children and young people. The integration of digital literacy into teaching practices is emphasized as a means to bridge the gap between students' experiences inside and outside the school. The document offers practical guidance and support for educators, encouraging the incorporation of digital literacy components in classrooms to foster critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication. It also highlights the importance of a comprehensive school-wide approach, involving shared understanding, school management support, ongoing reflection, and faculty professional development. In summary, the text positions digital literacy as a vital element of education, aligned with national curriculum goals and school ethos, seeking to inspire practices that promote students' digital literacy in the school environment.

Throughout my exploration of the document, a recurring theme underscores the significance of weaving digital literacy seamlessly into our teaching methodologies. The text advocates for a comprehensive approach, asserting that the cultivation of digital literacy should transcend specific subjects and become a pervasive aspect of all educational disciplines. As educators, we are encouraged to delve into the realm of digital tools and technologies, fostering an active engagement that empowers students to become independent and critical thinkers. The essence lies in integrating these digital elements to bridge the gap between our students' experiences within the traditional classroom setting and their digital lives beyond it. The document envisions an educational environment where students can effortlessly draw connections between their digital surroundings and the academic content, creating a sense of relevance and applicability to their daily lives. This approach aims to equip students with the skills needed to navigate and critically assess information in our rapidly evolving digital era, aligning their educational journey with the essential competencies for active participation in contemporary society.

Originating from the Futurelab's digital participation project, the document emphasizes the importance of digital literacy in the contemporary educational landscape. By providing practical insights and guidance, it aims to inspire educators and school leaders to develop approaches that foster students' digital literacy. The focus on integrating digital literacy across all disciplines, coupled with continuous support for teachers' professional development, reflects the need for a comprehensive transformation in the education system. The holistic approach, from the classroom to school administration, emerges as crucial for the success of digital literacy initiatives. Ultimately, the document underscores the importance of preparing students to face the challenges of an increasingly digitized society, promoting critical and creative skills necessary for their full engagement in the contemporary world.

I hope you have appreciated this reflection, thank you for your attention.

Kind regards,

Bruno Rodrigues
